Description
Child Life Specialists interact directly with patients and family members to reduce distress and trauma associated with illness, injury and health care and increase effective coping. Utilizing play and other forms of age appropriate interactions, Child Life Specialists work to optimize development, normalize the hospital experience, promote the expression of feelings, enhance healthy independence, foster family strengths, and psychologically prepare patients and family members for stress-points throughout their health care experiences.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development or a closely related field
Must be eligible for Child Life Certification and certified within 12 months of hire
The incumbent must be capable of a full range of verbal and written communication, and possess the ability to work in a professional manner consistent with the standards of the hospital, community and the profession
Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Must have completed Child Life Internship of 500 hours
Preferences:
National Certification preferred but required within 1 year of hire
Two (2) years of professional paid experience
Experience in a medical or hospital setting is preferred along with the ability to speak Spanish
