Description
The anatomic pathology technician organizes and manages flow of anatomic pathology specimens through the laboratory, from specimen receipt through preparation of final diagnostic slides. Procedures include, but are not limited to: acting as a technical resource for physicians and hospital personnel for specimen submission and special handling and testing, gross examination of specific types of specimens for special procedures, preparing tissue samples for diagnosis by the pathologist (routine histology, special stains, frozen sections, touch imprints, bone marrow, preparation and send out tissue samples for reference laboratory tests, maintenance of space, equipment and supplies for autopsy and surgical pathology, maintenance and trouble shooting of equipment, filing and maintenance of slides, blocks and other specimens, on call-coverage of autopsies. This position requires dependability, excellent interpersonal skills, and be a team player. This position will work 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m Monday through Friday and rotating weekends and holiday coverage.
Qualifications
This position requires training in an accredited school of histotechnology. Must have high school diploma or equivalent, and Histology Tech HT (ASCP) certification. Only those with HT credentials should apply. Experience in Immunohistochemistry staining preferred.
